Jane has a bit of problem. She’s in hospital, she was hit by a car and thrown in a rosebush. Now she’s in hospital, there’s something not quite right about her memory. While convalescing her friends all come to visit her and discuss what happened on that night. The biggest problem is that there are small but important differences between each story. Who does she believe? And does she trust her own memory and judgement?
Unlikely to win major awards, or change the world, this is nonetheless a terrific book that looks at the social world of high school and how things are not always the way they seem. This is also a great way to introduce YA readers to crime fiction in general and allow them to see if they can work out who it was and who set her up. Jane is a likeable character, who every girl can identify with in her every day problems that escalate slightly out of control. This is a great way to spend a cold afternoon.
