Applications are now open for secondary school students aged 15 and over wishing to participate in the Readings Work Experience program in 2025.

This year we are offering a limited number of one-week placements during the months of May and June at the following shops:

As a community-focused organisation, Readings is committed to sharing its passion and knowledge for books, music and culture. By offering places to local secondary school students, we hope to encourage and develop interests in these areas and provide an environment to discover new and exciting Australian and international authors and performing artists.

Your week:

During your week at Readings, you will be involved in many facets of the business. Our aim is to provide a broad understanding of the operations of book retailing. This may include learning more about the children’s book section, an introduction to inventory databases, internet researching, customer service, picking stock for internet sales, library customers or returns.

How to apply:

Please write to explain why you chose Readings for your work experience opportunity. We would also like you to pick three books you have enjoyed and write briefly about why you selected them.

Please include the preferred dates for your placement (during May or June), the shop you wish to work at, as well as your own contact details. We also require the name, address, and phone number of the school you are attending, and the person who is your school contact.

Applications can be emailed to Jennifer Varela, P&C Business Partner at [email protected].

Because placements are limited, we are unable to guarantee that all applicants will be successful.

Applications close Sunday 23 March 2025, unless all places are filled prior.
