Corvis piloted a space cruise ship with hundreds of orphans from Earth. As World War III unfolded there, no one was surprised that power-hungry despots tried to invade Enceladus, an icy moon of Saturn where everything worked to produce an incredibly prosperous, hard-working, fun-loving community. Gang boss Brobding boarded Corvis's ship, but Corvis, Svet, and Billy overwhelmed and killed him, and the ship landed safely on Enceladus. A double wedding celebrated the heroes' love and their victory. Invisibly attached to a drone flying above the wedding cake, a gift exploded, thrusting a knife into Corvis's new husband's heart in front of 10,000 guests. Before this, crime was invisible on Enceladus.
Corvis is recruited to help find Billy's murderer. On Earth, Corvis was strong and athletic, but he's fallen out of shape. With no training in police work, he rushes into potentially deadly situations, and he overextends himself leading to a breakdown.
Enceladus's secret weapon is a colony of single-celled organisms called satendrites that can see and remember but do little else.
Who would want to kill Billy, and why? What has he ever done to hurt anyone? And why do it so publicly? Other disappearances and murders follow.
Corvis is paired with Bert, the new cop and primary investigator in Billy's murder. Over time, they fall in love.
Billy was Apprentice Dragomark, the one who speaks for the satendrites. That office must now be filled. Blind, soon-to-be 18-year-old Mary is chosen. She arrived on Enceladus with Corvis. She falls in love with Kelly, a communications worker who is also blind and turns out to be creepy and gang related. Mary helps find and recover two Enceladans. A previously unknown alien, Aqit, abducted Erwan and Kevin. Corvis's visit to Tethys, another moon of Saturn, with the Aqit, raises the scepter of other intelligent extraterrestrials who might not be so friendly.
Corvis meets the shady gang boss Typhoon, AKA Pearl, AKA Persephata. She kidnaps Mary and demands money and then a prime spot in the government of the community. It seems the mystery has been solved, but after her death, murders and demands continue. Representative Hurd, the third most powerful individual on Enceladus is the prime suspect.
When Persephata attempts to murder Mary, Persephata is killed by a single sharpshooter's bullet.
Hurd tries to escape through the sewers, and when caught commits suicide.
Brobding, Persephata, and Hurd all had metallic tattoos that no human could produce, given to them in exchange for their commitment to helping the Dromish conquer all humans in the solar system.
Can all the people Corvis has hurt ever forgive him?
Will Corvis remarry?
Will Mary become Dragomark?
