Creation’s Silent Path

Creation's Silent Path: Discovering Hesychastic Truths in Genesis explores the allegorical depth within the first three narratives of Genesis: The Creation of Heaven and Earth, The Creation of Man, and The Fall of Man. This is approached through the lens of the original biblical language, Hebrew, as well as the Jewish context of the times, complemented by an understanding of the Eastern Orthodox hesychastic path-the path of silence that leads to a person knowing God. These narratives are treated as allegories that reveal the spiritual path from chaos to order, showing that they are not about the creation of the universe nor the formation of a single man and woman; rather, they symbolically tell the story of Moses (Adam) and the children of Israel (Eve) in their journey out of Egypt through the wilderness and eventually into the Promised Land. The Law and the Presence of God, granted to them at Mount Sinai, were essentially the breath of life that empowered them to become a holy people with the possibility of transformation into a "man in our image."

All of this is shown with clarity through an examination of the distinct Hebrew terms used within the allegories. By uncovering their nuanced meaning of these terms outside the allegories, we come to understand their intended meanings within the allegories themselves. They reveal to us the stories that the author(s) held in mind while crafting the allegories. Through this linguistic forensics, we discover the inspiration behind these narratives and gain insight into their intended message for humanity.
