The twin kingdoms of Fierendia and Incindia are at war with a guerilla army that is slaughtering thousands as they cross the continent. Desilvanik Zetanri Monoko of Incindia is at a standstill with his council on how to help his people. Desilvanik Mosono Monoko of Fierendia is doing all he can to protect his borders but regardless, soldiers from his militia are defecting to this unknown threat.
In an act commanded by his council, Desilvanik Zetanri must find a bride to rule at his side. The council has hope that she will hold his attention while they deal with the threat to the kingdom in the way they deem necessary.
But when he chooses Zaru Tannoni, the council is furious and demands he choose another.
Why would one woman from a country village garner such aggression?
Zaru, like the women around her, is in a perilous position. The Rogue army is systematically destroying villages and only kidnapping a few from each area that seems to be at random. The local militias are self serving, protecting themselves instead of the people of the villages and towns. Some soldiers have resorted to acts deemed unthinkable but without any accountability why would they stop.
When the Desilvanik comes to her door with the intent to marry her, Zaru is both elated and terrified. For her, the reasoning is unknown but she soon learns that the Desilvanik cares deeply for his people and their worries.
But when the Rogue attacks and she has to flee, she is forced to set aside her feelings for the Incindian Desilvanik. She joins the Fierendian cause and vows to protect those like herself, regardless that as a woman, it is forbidden to join the militia under the current armistice between the two kingdoms.
And with how the Desilvanik Mosono resembles his brother in both temperament and appearance, will she be forced to make a choice between one ruler or the other?
