Fifteen-year-old Monserat Lopez lives in a small house on the outskirts of El Paso, Texas. Life in the borderlands is lively but tough as she tries to balance her Mayan roots with American high school life. Monserat feels awkward and out of place, struggling with low self-esteem. Her only escape is painting, and she dreams of someday opening her own art studio. High school feels lonely-until she meets Rosie.

Rosie is unlike anyone Monserat has ever met. Her bright pink outfits and bold personality make her impossible to miss. But Rosie has a secret-she's an alien, stranded on Earth after her spaceship crashed in the mountains of El Paso a thousand years ago. Stuck on Earth, Rosie hides her true identity while hoping to find a way back to her home planet of Lumina.

The two girls quickly become best friends, sharing their dreams, fears, and secrets while stargazing under their favorite tree. But when their biggest secrets come to light, everything changes. Together, they must navigate a journey to test their bond and redefine their futures.
