Wren Gibbs has always been an outcast while living in Black Rivers, the merchant town to the east of the nation of Arnica. Her father figure, Lionel Gibbs, brought her in to his home to keep her safe when she was young, but did not anticipate how she would be received by the town. While Wren is strong-willed and quite stubborn, she fights a daily battle for acceptance and respect from the community, to which only a handful of citizens have opted to show her any. Although her friends are few in number, their loyalty and persistence have allowed her a welcome reprieve from the disapproving looks and jeering insults she receives any time she steps out of her home.
After an attempted coup to dethrone the king of Arnica failed, those who had been involved blame Wren for the death of their leader, Seth Tanner, and do so openly. Feelings of animosity toward her only grew when the disappearances began. As the tension intensified to a nearly unbearable level, a new presence catalyzes a series of events that change the course of, not only Wren's future, but the future of all of Yu'e.
The Light of the Spell is set in the mythical world of Yu'e, a place where creatures live alongside humans in relative peace. Yet, a great war looms on the horizon and threatens to awaken a darkness that had once been sealed away long ago. A war that will impact the lives of everyone within the realm if it were to take hold or fester.
Can Wren and her friends stop it before it begins? Can she overcome her external and internal demons in time to fulfill her role in the prophecy?
Only reading will tell.
