Malcolm Wallace, a well-travelled man from a wealthy family, finally achieves his lifelong pursuit, when he discovers how to surrect - separating the consciousness from the body - then synching them back together again. Even with his wealth and connections, however, Malcolm had to bargain with questionable characters in order to achieve his goal. Colin, a narcissistic CIA agent involved in the project, discovers surrection for himself and goes rogue.

Malcolm uses surrection to explore the universe to find answers to life's most elusive mysteries, learning how to apparate his consciousness through space, and mastering the ability to travel through time. Meanwhile, Colin uses surrection to steal other people's lives, systematically consolidating wealth and power to himself, and ultimately, as a means of personal immortality.

Once Malcolm discovers what Colin is doing, he sends his own consciousness to the future to see the repercussions of his discovery. In the end, Malcolm must decide whether witnessing the mysteries of the universe is worth all of the pain and misery inflicted on others by Colin, and if not, attempt to close the Pandora's box he opened, before it's too late.
