Pier is a young Navy man, recently discharged from the military after a life-altering injury, who travels to Malta intending to find his father. Instead, he finds a complicated, beautiful islander, Opal, who is deeply entangled in a close-knit island community and emotionally bound by a tormenting and secret history of her own.
