These Stones

Susan Rohrer, Cheryl McKay

Looking for a study guide to unearth the deeper meaning of the faith-based TV series THESE STONES? Look no farther. You've just found the official, devotional handbook for Season 1, designed especially for you. This book is your roadmap to discover the treasure that you are in God's sight-and the gem you're meant to be as a living stone in the household of faith.

Maybe you've never thought of yourself as a gemstone. Perhaps you feel more like an ordinary gray pebble, trodden underfoot by the challenges you face. You may feel as flawed as the people from the Bible we've figuratively depicted and the present-day people they help.

Whether you're journaling through this Study Guide individually or exploring personal applications and fielding discussion questions in a small group, know this:

You are never alone.

It's our hope that God will give you eyes to see the meaningful stones He places in your path. And it's our prayer that you'll be gifted with ears to hear the words of faith, hope, and love He speaks to you through them.

Want to know more about the biblical basis for the TV Series and this companion Study Guide?

In the television series THESE STONES, a young woman gets drawn into a supernatural system working with undercover Bible characters to help people today.

How does this Judeo-Christian allegory mesh with biblical theology? You'll notice a paragraph in an introductory chapter of this book and at the beginning of each TV episode:

This contemporary series explores a premise and characters from biblical history. Fictionalized elements are allegorical, designed to honor the truth.

THESE STONES uses a New Testament passage as the springboard for our allegory. Matthew 27:50-53 records that after Jesus died and was raised from the dead, many saints who died before Jesus were brought back to life. Those resurrected Bible people went into Jerusalem. The Bible says they started appearing to many people in the city.

The Bible isn't talking about ghosts or reincarnation. Neither is THESE STONES. Nobody came back as something or someone else. Nobody's seeing dead people.

Rather, the Bible says these human saints were resurrected-from death to life. The Scriptures are silent about what happened to those risen saints after verse 53. Whether they went on living or died again remains a mystery. But that's where our allegory kicks in.

THESE STONES figuratively explores how this scriptural scenario could have unfolded if those saints had only been appointed to die once (as the Bible says we are). What if they lived on and kept appearing to people-even to this day?

The symbolic appearances of scriptural characters in THESE STONES represent how living and active the Bible is. THESE STONES is meant to bring the people of the Bible and their stories to life in a way that's relevant to readers and viewers like you and the real-world challenges you face today.

The TV Series THESE STONES stars a multi award-winning cast led by Madeline Carroll, Karen Abercrombie, Charlene Amoia, Rusty Joiner, and Cameron Arnett. Stream it on UP Faith & Family starting 9/5/24 and anytime thereafter.
