A special garden with a bonus program for preserving personal history

Grandma Gummy's Garden was a magical place for a young granddaughter when she came to Topeka, Kansas from South Africa to visit. The memories made on those summer trips were even more special than the time Grandma stayed with her family when she was a toddler and let her have chewing gum (thus the nickname Gummy). Grandma Gummy loves to garden and takes her granddaughter to a special garden built in memory of her friend, Kay. In addition to the beautiful, peaceful setting at the Topeka Zoo, Kay had set aside enough funds to start an online site where anyone can upload their personal stories to preserve them for all time. Grandma Gummy's granddaughter learns about this website and all about community volunteer efforts and develops a new appreciation for her own family.

This book is being published to give to visitors to the Kay McFarland Japanese Garden and Venue at the Topeka Zoo. The goal of the book giveaway is to encourage individuals and families to record their personal stories of volunteerism and service and to encourage children at an early age to get involved and give back to their communities.
