When Haley and Bobbie's magic-hating mother realized that her daughters had inherited the magic of their ancestor, the Good Witch of Christmas, La Befana, she abandoned them at a small cottage on an island off the coast of Greenland, otherwise known as the portal to the North Pole where the girls' grandfather lives. Despite growing up in a holiday paradise, the sisters decided to leave the realm of magic holiday folk behind and head to a small town in Maryland in search of a 'normal' life. However, once tragedy strikes, leaving Bobbie widowed and Haley disabled, Haley can no longer find it in herself to get into the holiday spirit.

Then she meets Oliver, a charming firefighter out on a candy cane delivery, and she is immediately enchanted.
