Joe Higgins didn't die in the fire, but it ended his life.

When Joe left the Fremont County Sheriff's Department, he left polite society. The only human he deals with willingly is Ada. After harassing him, his old boss, the sheriff, drags Joe into a missing person case that isn't at all what it seems. Joe's keen ability to track and find connections between obscure clues leads to a twisted realization and leaves the department scrambling. The simple case of a missing boy is anything but simple.

When the case ties back to a dispute over garden vegetables during Joe's last summer with the department, he has no choice but to follow the leads and track down the boy. Joe has to prove to everyone around him that his theory isn't crazy. It is his only chance to turn his world right side up.
