High in the mountains, the elves of the peaceful village of Shaamel still recall the time before a long-ago treaty forced them from their valley homes. A darkly powerful elf named Altoneir had long since reconciled and found happiness in his new home, but when tragedy takes away everything he holds dear, his grief soon turns to a rage great enough to destroy worlds.

Bereft of home, love, or companionship, Altoneir wanders alone through a world in which he no longer has a place. As his grief and wrath merge into powerful, destructive magic, he desires little more than to destroy those who had taken everything from him: the humans who had forced the elves in to the mountains all those centuries ago.

As Altoneir's path of destruction attracts the attention of those who would try to rule him, a mysterious woman crosses his path, whispering in his ear words that soothe and entice him...and change the way he looks at himself, his power, and the world.
