Dog lovers of all ages will adore Zephyr and learn from his narrative how to create the best lives possible for our beloved pups. --Jennifer S. Holland, best-selling author of Dog Smart: Life-Changing Lessons in Canine Intelligence and Unlikely Friendships

A delightful tale of a most beloved companion, Zephyr, from his point of view. Slobodchikoff's latest book takes you from puppyhood to those hard moments when we have to say goodbye. Zephyr's Tale is a heartfelt canine autobiography that is full of fun, adventure, and real lessons on how we humans can learn how to guide dogs in living their best life alongside us. --- Jennifer Verdolin, author of Wild Connect and Raised by Animals

Glorious and spellbinding. A GREAT book! Con Slobodchikoff transposes over a half-century of his internationally renowned scientific inquiry and observations of other species and ecosystems into a poignant, utterly original looking glass.

At one point in the book, Zephyr runs off in pursuit of a much larger animal (elk). After miles of a mad dash through the wilderness, Zephyr explains: He wants to know if he can outrun them. But this is a non-violent canine who clarifies an essential point of life. He sees birds and butterflies, and he dreams that he too can fly and run forever - smelling, sensing, knowing everything there is to know in nature. For him, every day is guaranteed to bring more miracles to his senses. It sounds perhaps too simple, but it is majestic and Zephyr is an uncanny narrator. At the end of his escapade, he finds himself lost, as is Judy who has been calling for him for an hour and losing her own sense of directions. Zephyr explains his mixed emotions. He is free, free to be far outside the realm of human company, and with it certain rules he's not thrilled by. But this incredible dog decides that everyone else - Con, Judy, Seri, Raja - they all need him, and he in turn has come to cherish their affections.

Happily, for all concerned, Con is incredibly witty, abundantly self-effacing. He knows from a lifetime of field research that such love, and a commitment to patience, a true willingness to explore untested realms of feeling and consciousness, will make all the difference in a troubled world. A great scientist has embraced his Doctor Dolittle.
