During each activity they experience together Nixon uses an Engine Word to communicate his wants and needs to his mother. Engine Words are powerful, functional first words that fuel your child's communication skills. They are words like "want" and "help" that can stand alone to communicate your child's wants and needs and be generated into longer utterances as your child grows.

Mika Storey, the author of this book, is a licensed pediatric speech-language pathologist and mother of two young children. Nixon's Engine Words was created with the child and parent in mind. Each page also features a caregiver tip explaining different language strategies, giving you the knowledge and confidence to support your child's communication skills in your own home.
