Mackenzie Prentice has sworn off snooping into other people's business, but when a family friend dies, her grandmother has a feeling something's just not right. She's sure the answers she seeks are concealed somewhere in the massive pile of stuff-football heroes and bird feathers, living things and things that are, most definitely, dead. She puts herself in danger, ignoring the warnings of the echoes from the past, determined to uncover the truth of who did what to whom, when, and why, with an assist from a highly unlikely new friend.

Mackenzie Prentice is thirty-five, has a touch of OCD, is addicted to sugar, may occasionally drink too much, and has those voices in her head commenting on her choices. Her relationship status: single but open to possibilities.
