Henry D. Heron is blown off course during a severe storm. During his travels to find his summer home, Henry meets Benjamin Bunny, Ellery C. Squirrel and Ferrell Lee Pig. Kind-hearted Ellery invites his new friends to visit his beloved home in Walden. He hopes it will become special for them, too.

With Ellery's help, Henry and Ferrell meet Walden's honorary mayor, Waldo W. Groundhog, and get to know Walden and its community of loons, ducks, and other wildlife. Seasons change and life at Walden brings its share of joy and surprises. Somewhere along the way, Henry discovers that Walden is his true place in the world-his home.
