What could you accomplish if you believed you could?

This beautiful poem tells the story of Benbang, a horse whose doctors questioned if she would ever be able to race. But when she finally gets her opportunity, the filly only has one goal in mind: to prove she belongs.

Inspired by true events, The Long Shot inspires others to follow their dreams no matter what obstacles stand in their way.

Author Chris Carpenter penned the original poem the night before Benbang's race at Saratoga. At the time, the text only mentioned the excitement that the horse would get to race... but then she won against all odds.

The Long Shot shows the raw emotion that comes along with overcoming self-doubt and what others may think or believe you're capable of. Benbang's story teaches children that anything is truly possible, making it the perfect addition to your home or classroom library.

Chris is partnering with the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, a nonprofit that saves thoroughbred horses no longer able to compete. A percent of the profits made from The Long Shot will go toward the foundation to help offer sanctuary to rescued and retired racehorses who are unable to pursue a second athletic career.
