Quite honestly, anyone who has spent at least 20 years with the living should have accumulated sufficient experiences, and thus material, to write stories like the ones in this collection. While the stories contained in this short text are some of the standouts in John’s life, chances are that anyone could match or best these with their own. The unfortunate fact is that sometimes…a lot of times…stories die. We forget them over time. We don’t write them down. We don’t share them.
Stories are the spice of people and their relationships with one another. Think of police investigators, historical researchers, eager audiences, readers, writers, campfires. Think of bedtime, children, old friends, new friends, demanding parents of teens and ol’ timers recollecting the past. All instances and circumstances that revolve around, thrive on or outright demand a story-be it good, true, comforting, inspiring or just doggone silly.
That being the case, John gives you, the reader, a few of his stories-from crashing a lemonade stand to receiving a miracle in the wind. Please enjoy reading John’s stories as much as he enjoyed experiencing them. They shaped John’s life and continue to make him smile and hope. One last note, these stories are all true as best John can remember…with a little sizzle added…but that’s typical of storytellers, right?
