The tinkling bells over the door announced the cowboy coming into the Desert's Dawn, a small cafe in the West Texas town of Ft. Davis. Interesting, the waitress Rachel thought...he's sure a tall drink of water! And Wyatt was thinking, yeah, she's definitely cute! It had been a very long, restless night in the sleepy town Rachel had grown up in. Too long. Both she and Wyatt had lived long years of their lives in unanswered desperation here. Loneliness, hopelessness, occasional crises, and dreary gray were the dark strokes of their endless twilight existences. Formerly a saloon with a rather bawdy bordello upstairs, it had gained some respectability over the decades, and was now a simple mom and pop diner owned by the Mexican-American couple, Manuel and Felicia Aguilar. And maybe it was still hanging on financially only due to Manuel's infamous treat...the Dulces del Diablo - the Devil's treats! That was a bit of a tongue-in-cheek irony since the Aguilars were committed Christ followers. From this last-stand epicenter, with its small cast of diverse characters, an adventure was about to bloom in the desert. Or maybe the opening strains of a long planned grand opus could now be heard. A masterpiece from the mind and heart of a God who hadn't forgotten about them. Even out here in the desert. Like those opening notes to the symphony, hope begins to rise like the sun on the desert horizon.
