Persuading Papa

In the Tintic mining town of Robinson, Utah, Mrs. Peel lavished dolls and clothes on her ten-year-old daughter Leona while Mr. Peel tried to rein in Leona’s impulsive nature with discipline and work. Meanwhile Leona concentrated on having fun and staying out of Papa’s way. But when Mrs. Peel got cancer and died while seeking treatment at the Weltmer Institute in Missouri, Leona could not understand why Papa at first wanted to put her in an orphanage and then left her as a boarder with a family in Salt Lake City. Navigating a world without her mother was tough enough. But the most difficult part of Leona’s life was persuading her father that he needed her. While participating in the creation of a living flag, enjoying a day at Lagoon, and watching one of the first airplane exhibitions in Utah, Leona learns about friends, families, and forgiveness.
