Don’t make the mistake of thinking heroes are nice people. Heroes are people who win, and often often means doing whatever it takes to stop people who are much less nice. In 2076, terrorists capture the Moon mining colony’s rail guns to rain shipments of iron ore on their enemies on Earth. Dan Parnes, de facto leader of the Moon colonists, and his mistress, Mattie Barre (an undercover spy for the New Federation of American States), lie, cheat and kill to rouse the miners to seize back control of the mines.

In the battles that ensue, the miners are assisted by Active Intelligences, re-engineered human brains created by rogue scientists who emigrated to the Moon to escape the restrictions of the worldwide Treaty on the Use of Human Genetic Material. When one of the AIs inserts herself in a sex doll, life on the Moon gets even more complicated.

The miners’ narrow victory leads the UN to attempt to assert military control over the Moon. However, the miners resist this effort. At the same time, Dan and Mattie must redouble their efforts to save both the Moon and the Earth from the remaining terrorists hidden on Earth….
