"Adventure awaits" - Unknown In this semi-autobiographical book, I recount true stories of adventures and misadventures from my 35+ years as a geologist, and 20-some years as a mother. In my humble opinion, the most interesting life experiences rarely happen in your living room. Life is, and should be, an adventure.
In this potpourri of (mostly) humorous short stories, I introduce you to my world, where geology, chaos, and wild-animal encounters collide. A world where Mother Nature, single motherhood, and mishaps merge. Prepare to be transported to moose country, a U.S. Nuclear facility, the streets of Bangladesh, and the land of "Ponytail Moms." Follow along as I recount tales of parenting blunders, raising an outdoorsy son, and finding the perfect pet - or not.
Written with wry amusement, most of the stories should make you chuckle - some may bring a tear to your eye. If I did my job well, you might even learn a few new things along the way - like the difference between geologists and engineers - or science and other non-essential trivia you may (or may not) be interested in. And the importance of listening to your inner voice.
At a minimum, I hope my stories will encourage you to take a chance at adventure in your life, because life is short. And at the end of each adventure, for better or for worse, ask yourself, "Was there a good story to be told?"
