June 1981: the Virgin Mary appears to six children in Croatia. A beautiful little village set high in the rock-covered mountains of Croatia, in an area of the world that was once a part of the former Yugoslavia, ruled under the iron fist of Marshall Tito, a Socialist dictator, from 1943 to 1991. Croatia is in Southeastern Europe, across the Adriatic Sea from Italy. Contained within the boundaries of Croatia is the Federation of Bosnia Herzegovina, where, in the 1990s, was fought a brutal and bloody civil war. The people living in this rugged land above the sparkling waters are, for the most part, either Croatian or Serbian, each of whom is fierce in their religious beliefs and ethnic culture.
