As a young boy growing up in the south; I loved the wind blowing through my clothes, as I played Cowboys and Indians! I loved the South! I loved the flowers growing in the woods, I loved catching the Fireflies, that lit up at night! What I didn't like was running around barefoot stumping my toe and knocking a nail loose from the big toe, which was very painful! One of the other things that I didn't like was the call of the Mad Dog. A Mad Dog is a rabid dog, slobbering at the mouth.

You could hear the people calling,

"Mad dog! Mad dog!

The other fear of the South was the fear of the white man....shooting or lynching young black boys!

At that time, I was 6 or 7 years old.

I was born on January 10th 1934, to Estelle and Elsie Winston I was their first born child. I was born in West Point Georgia, on Mountain Spring Highway in our home. My father and mother had two other children; Frances, my sister, who was two years younger than me and Robert, my brother, who was two years younger than Frances.

When I was 8 years old, my father and mother relocated us to Chicago, Illinois. This book Trials and Tribulations of Life is a testimony of my experiences that I lived while growing up in the streets, on the south side of Chicago. I witnessed first hand, through sight and interaction people, whose lives became entangled in different types of lifestyles, as a means of survival. I learned ways of making a living by exploiting myself, as well as others; in order to maintain and thrive in this environment. I was able to cover myself by involving and befriending people in the environment, into my life. Once I established a bond with these people, I was considered by them as almost a family member., whom they would not allow anyone to harm or misuse. They were surroundingHustlers, who took a liking to me.

In my book I want to reveal the entrapment that I experienced as a young boy, I was naive! They changed my whole life around. All of a sudden, I had everything that I needed and I was introduced to the vicious street life. I found myself entrapped in a lifestyle that was dangerous....it gave me satisfaction, as well as a sense of security.
