Abby is a beautiful, young New York State Supreme Court Justice whose personality flaws are far reaching. From the outside it looks as though she lives a simple and rewarding life in the Brooklyn Heights section of Brooklyn, New York. However, her self-destructive nature as an adult may very well have stemmed from the time, as a young girl, when she found her father's body in the basement of the family home. Although deemed an apparent suicide, many questions remain unanswered.

Some questionable decisions put Abby in a compromising position and aligned her more closely with an acquaintance of ill repute. Of the many other people in Abby's life, only two seem to have Abby's well-being in mind. Walter, an old friend of her father's, whose intentions are sincere, tries to help when he can. And Sarah, an intern from Brooklyn Law School who becomes a valued confidant of Abby's, but who turns out to not be there for Abby when most needed.
