The idea for this book had come about while I was initially writing "The Knotted Cord". That had been because I had wondered, what had prompted the wizard Tamar to create the passage between the worlds. I had hoped that I would eventually explain his reason for doing so in the books that followed that one. [The Fuller Jewel or The Wizards of Vane] But that explanation or reason had never came as part of those stories. This is now my attempt to answer my own question, along with some of Tamar's remembrances. To help detail some of the events that he had experienced throughout his lifetime.

This tale follows Tamar from his early life and when he had first begun to make things happen that seemed like magic. Then some of his memories from the school that he would attend then followed by him being chosen to become the magical apprentice for the wizard Lovener. This book includes some of his various assignments that he was asked to do. Leading to his experiences that includes his creation of the Orthlon. Describing, how he created it and what he then found out from what he had created, and what he would go on to learn while he was in that other world. Eventually, leading to the attack of evil with him rescuing Milan and their flight to safety. It then includes some of Tamar's thoughts from while Mite was growing up. Finishing with Mite's discovery of the Orthlon, which would lead to his eventual return into the world of the Vane Isles.
