Under Chairman Mao Zedong's "One Child Policy", Jing and Tung are forced to leave their second newborn baby girl at a government building in Guangdong province, China.

Their baby girl is put up for adoption and adopted by Scott and Linda, a married couple living in New Jersey, USA.

Their baby girl Maria grows up to be a guitar prodigy and internet sensation. Her father Scott is a professional guitarist and has a local guitar cable television series. Meanwhile, back in China, Jing the biological mother can't stop thinking about the baby she gave up some 20 years before and finds a way through her employer to America. Jing reunites with Maria through serendipitous circumstances and decides to kidnap her in the hope to return home to China with Maria.

The story ends with both families coming together by the intercession of the Virgin Mary. What may have been a story on kidnapping and desire, turns into a story of forgiveness and love.
