Sarah’s Song
Richard Dinse
God promised Abraham a son and would later promise Sarah that she would conceive and bear a son to Abraham, and the son would be called Isaac. Sarah, because she was barren during what we would consider normal childbearing age, gave up on God's promise, did it her way and gave her maidservant Hagar to Abraham, thinking she was fulfilling God's promise. The son that was born would be called Ishmael. You see, Sarah gave up on God's promise. That was a big mistake!
When Sarah was well beyond childbearing age, probably in her nineties, she conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age. God's promise was fulfilled. Abraham would become the father of many nations, and Sarah would become the mother of many nations.
The birth of Isaac was the miracle that God had long promised Sarah. The creation of a new life is a gift from God, a miracle to be cherished. It is Sarah's song to the world!
