Kent Gilbert is desperate to be friends with Stub, Buford, Carl, and the other "cool" guys in high school. However, when the gang plans a party in an old, abandoned barn, Kent is invited - to stay away. In an attempt to prove that he can fit in, Kent comes up with a plan, but it goes horribly wrong and results in a blinding explosion. The doctor says that, tragically, Kent's eyesight appears to be lost. This lesson comes at a high price, but as is often the case, this overwhelming event in his life results in a most wonderful change of heart.
