Linda Penner is in a difficult situation. Her mother died recently, and her father has started a new job that keeps him away from home much of the time. To help out, Linda and her sister Becky are living with Danny and Kay Orlis. However, Linda feels like she is being treated like a child and rebels against Danny and Kay.

Then, Linda finds a "friend" in a rather rebellious boy named Jack. Things take a turn for the worse when she starts lying to Danny and Kay to spend more time with Jack, justifying her actions due to her unfortunate circumstances. The situation comes to a head when Jack is pulled over by the police.
