This is the story of a 12-year-old boy who learns the meaning of friendship. Bullied on the bus at the beginning of 7th grade, he sees a sign in the window of a shop that says "Demon for Rent." He goes in, thinking that it will be the way to stop the bullying. However, not everything is as it seems. The sign starts a series of events that will change his 7-grade and future life. David comes to understand the circumstances that caused the behavior of a boy, the bully, who would eventually, become his best friend. Over the school year, he experiences events that teach him what poverty is, what it means to be homeless, and how loneliness can affect everyone. He learns what it means to lend a hand where and when needed. Of course, there are the usual issues that both boys and girls face, the ups and downs of school and relationships. All of this happens, just because of a sign in the window of a shop.
