Seven hours before she is deployed to the warfront, sixteen-year old Jade kills an Antarctican.

The war between Antarctica and the United Provinces has reigned for six long years, and has been a constant in Jade's idealistic, patriotic world. She has passed the arduous Military Trials with an honourable rank, but the twisted secrets she's learnt and kept lead to murder. The plan is simple: serve for three years, return or die for the country. No greater honour.

But Jade is now in a brutal Antarctican prisoner-of-war camp and the Antarcticans have conquered her home country. Every day in the camp only seems to prove their defeat.

The rumours of the resistance, the Last Army are fragmented, but the deep-set soldier in Jade is determined and hopeful. Together with Calder, a comrade, she hatches a desperate plan for escape, which involves stealing potential vaccines and breaking into Antarctican prison, and certainly not survival.

After all, there is no greater honour, than to die for the country.
