SWORDS & WIZARDRY: WHITEBOX is a fast-moving fantasy role-playing game which re-creates the rules from the original 1974 printing of Dungeons & Dragons*. The rules are quick and easy to learn, compared to most modern games. Yet this game contains within itself the soul of mythic fantasy and the kindling of wonder. It's powerful precisely because it's encapsulated by such a small formula-like a genie imprisoned in the small compass of an unremarkable lamp. The WhiteBox version of Swords & Wizardry covers only the three books from the original boxed set released in 1974. If you want to play the complete version of Original D&D as it existed in 1978, you may want to try Swords & Wizardry Complete (Revised), but many players prefer this version for its simplicity and flexibility.
