Raymond Deaton was born in St. Louis, Mo, in 1939. He was raised in a household in which nothing was known about aircraft or anything associated with aircraft.

As a young boy, he would watch groups of aircraft overflying to war, although he knew nothing about war. Parents in those days believed children should not be concerned about those types of things.

His first introduction and knowledge of the Air Traffic Control System was when he joined the United States Air Force at the age of eighteen. The Air Force had sent him to school to learn what became his lifelong career. Once he became an Air Traffic Controller, he studied to learn as much as possible.

Through his studies and experience he became qualified in all aspects of his career and became one of THE BEST of THE BEST.
