A short history of our line of the Sperry family as researched and remembered by Greta Daigle, 2024 My paternal grandmother was Mary Theresa Sperry, who loved to tell the family stories. Through her and through my parents, Maurice Sperry Young and Marion Kirch Young, I developed a strong passion for genealogy, and especially our own family stories. I loved her story that we were descended from pirates. We have traced the Sperry family back to John Sperry, born 1540 in Bedfordshire, England. The first Sperry to come to America was Richard Sperry, who came to America in 1637. Richard is known to have aided the judges who condemned Charles 1 to death and escaped England as a "Regicide". It is through the Sperrys that we are related to Benjamin Franklin, who is my 1st cousin, 9 times removed. We are also related to Sperry Flour in California, Sperry Gyroscopes who later evolved into Honeywell Corp. and to the Sperry Shoes. We have a long line of Adirondack Guides and creators and builders and regular people too. This is a very consolidated version of my line, back through the Sperrys. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.
