Sharky and Otto both have a bit of trouble making friends and meeting new people because of other's perceptions of them. The preconceived notions the other fish have made of them are based mostly off of the way each of them looks. Sharky the shark appears scary to other fish, while Otto the octopus looks really different. Between being bullied and being avoided, neither of them has any friends. That all changes when they meet each other. Because of Sharky, no one bullies Otto anymore, and because of Otto, Sharky looks more approachable. They both begin to make more friends after meeting.
