One bleak night, Sparky, a shepherd/beagle-mix puppy and his five siblings are dropped by their mother at Pawshank, Kalamazoo's leading animal shelter. One-by-one, the pups are adopted until only Sparky remains. Because his "cell" is too large for just one dog, Sparky is transferred to "Gen Pup" where he befriends Thor, a long-term inmate who guides him through the challenges of life in prison. Betsy, a Goldendoodle from an affluent breeder, is born into a loving family amid beautiful surroundings. At eight weeks, Betsy
is adopted by Helen, a wealthy widow living in a glorious home on the shore of Lake Michigan. Suddenly, Betsy's world is turned upside-down, and she finds herself living in the same animal shelter as Sparky. The two meet, fall in love and begin working every possible angle to be together. Circumstances intervene, however, and the two are separated when Betsy is adopted and taken away. Inconsolable, both dogs pledge to one day reunite and never part again. The book is written for anyone who loves dogs, and has ever wondered what they think, and why they react in certain ways. The Pawshank Redemption answers these questions, while providing a unique look at how dogs imitate and manipulate the humans in their lives. From overcoming adversity and enduring heart-breaking loss, to the relentless pursuit of love and happiness, two "rescue" dogs cling to the belief they will one day be reunited and live happily ever after.
