"Some Friends Roost and Others Flock" is the 4th book in the series chronicling the adventures of Shoo Shoo and Teakettle. One morning Shoo Shoo the squirrel and Teakettle the wren wake up to find that they are surrounded by a roost of visiting monarch butterflies. They are curious to discover why the butterflies are in their garden. When they approach one of the monarchs, they are told that the roost is on a long journey home. Teakettle and Shoo Shoo welcome them and invite them to stay as long as they like. The monarchs eat and rest and soon continue on their journey. Once the roost leaves the garden Shoo Shoo and Teakettle decide they are hungry. They head to the house where the children Jack and Lucy live. They know they can always count on Jack and Lucy to leave them a few treats to eat. This time they see that Lucy and Jack are decorating for the Fall season with lots of pumpkins. Teakettle suggests they decorate for the Fall too. Shoo Shoo tells Teakettle that they should think of a special way to thank Jack and Lucy for taking care of them. They decide to get to work and take on the challenge of moving a big pumpkin to their tree. When they get the pumpkin to the tree they take a nap. Funny the rabbit wakes them up and wants to join in the fun of decorating for Fall. They decide to hold a meeting of all their animal friends and plan a party to celebrate their friendship. Everyone is excited and wants to help. The next day Shoo Shoo and Teakettle wake up to find the trees in the garden are full of turkeys. The curious pair try to find out why the turkeys are in the garden, but the turkeys don't stay long. The turkeys leave and Shoo Shoo and Teakettle discover that the flock left a young turkey behind. When the young turkey realizes his flock has left him, he is sad and worried that he will never see his flock again. Shoo Shoo and Teakettle try to reassure him that he is welcome in their garden home. They try to distract him by telling him that they are having a party, and he will be the special guest. The party goes as planned and is a big success. To the surprise of all the guests and happily for the young turkey, his flock comes back for him. They all say goodbye to the turkey and his flock and tell them to come back and visit soon. Shoo Shoo suddenly remembers how they can show their thanks to Lucy and Jack. He tells Teakettle that they have work to do. The final illustration depicts that sentiment.
