"Camera Girl, Volume 2: Concrete Blonde" features the work and career of architectural and interior photographer Barbara Bourne. Barbara began her photography career at 22 in Washington, D.C. where she started out photographing events, presidential inaugurals and portraits. At one point she received several assignments photographing architectural interiors and exteriors. Here began her journey photographing all aspects of the building process from ground breaking and cement pours to meticulously lit and styled interiors. As the industry changed from film to digital her work ethic and ability to stay adaptable remained. Concrete Blonde shares the evolution of a young woman starting her photography career and business in what was predominantly a man's domain to an accomplished professional in her field. Featured on the pages of 'Concrete Blonde' are the architectural, lifestyle, commercial and landscape photographs that make up her portfolio spanning 40 years, and the story of the tenacity and adaptability it took to have agency over her career as a photographer. The ups and downs of a freelance photographer are shared along with the growth of a business practice and the value of finding mentors along the way. Barbara's goal in writing 'Concrete Blonde' is to inspire young women who want a career in photography or the arts; she shares her path with the hope that others may find a path of their own.
