"On 25th of August 1989, as Voyager 2 flew over Neptune's north pole and six hours later had a short rendezvous with the exciting moon Triton, the cameras on board Voyager 2 saw a moon which enthralled and astounded scientists back on Earth. Almost four hours after the highest resolution photos had been taken by the cameras on board Voyager 2, the scientists at JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) saw a world which seemed to encapsulate fragments of all the other ice moons in the Solar System. There was a south pole consisting of nitrogen ice/methane ice, active volcanoes, collapsed volcanoes, some craters, strange terrain, furrows, valleys and ridges. Most of these geological features had been observed on several of the moons which Voyager 2 had flown by on its twelve years long journey through the Solar System. This final encounter with a fascinating world was indeed a fantastic final ending to a long journey which had enhanced Earth science and its knowledge of the outer Solar System". This book is illustrated throughout with more than 60 color photographs.
