Detective Chris Hunter from "Death Never Sleeps" is back with a new case.
In an abandoned storage locker Detective Chris Hunter discovers the Murder Books for a notorious crime, The Early Bird Cafe Massacre, where eight people were murdered in cold blood.
Since the case is closed and the killer is on Death Row, Chris leafs through the Murder Books mostly out of curiosity, until he finds a reference to his old partner, Big Jim Donegan. When Chris sees Big Jim's name his interest in the Early Bird Cafe killings takes on a whole new urgency.
The deeper Hunter probes the more he begins to wonder if the gang-banger convicted of the crime might have been framed. If he had been set up then one or more cold-blooded killers are still on the loose and Hunter can't and won't let that go, if for no other reason than that he owes catching them to Big Jim.
