Corrupt politicians and crooked contractors plan to build a new road through the ancient beech and oak woodlands of Higgins Bottom.

Opposed to the project are a mixture of hippies, environmentalists and concerned local citizens who have set up a camp in the woods, in the path of the proposed road, to try and save the threatened trees.

Despite their opposition, the project seems destined to go ahead. With only days left, it depends on a final ballot from the local council which expects to have a single vote majority in favour of the development.

The battle seems lost, but the protestors come up with a desperate, last-minute plan to halt the already massing bulldozers.

Whatever anybody on either side expects or hopes for goes out of the window though, as one bizarre, unexpected twist after another leaves the fate of the forest hanging in the balance until the very end.

Along with plenty of action, suspense and colourful characters, this fast-moving adventure comedy also has deep, underlying political and environmental overtones.
