This used to be literal, but in more recent times, it has changed. The sacrifices now have a year to fall in love with one another, or the old methods will be employed again. Blood or love, these are their choices. When Harmony Karmassas' name comes out of the chalice, soon followed by Thomas Zekes, a man she can honestly say she hates, love is not an option for her.
