On the Canadian prairies in 1886, having a mail-order romance isn't unusual. Noah Ferguson desperately needs help on his farm.

Annie Tompkins knows she can't go on working in Lazenby's cotton mill. Her little sister Bets will die if she goes on breathing in the lint from the machines.

Annie answers Noah's plea for an older woman, previously married, and familiar with farm work, none of which is true. Annie's a young virgin. But even that isn't the full extent of her lies.
