Everett Evers grew up in Leavenworth, Kansas without a father. As a result, Everett had several brushes with the local sheriff. After his mother died while he was in jail, Everett left Kansas and headed to the plains of Texas to hunt buffalo. He returned home to find his best friend, who was also the sheriff's son, was now a deputy. When the sheriff was murdered, Everett was the prime suspect, so he headed for the mountains of Colorado. There, he discovered a valley that offered him everything that he needed. Everett soon discovered that even in an idyllic setting, he had to fight weather, wildlife, and claim jumpers to keep what was rightfully his.
