Brokenness: a condition when someone or something is damaged and unable to continue or work properly.

Old wounds are hard to heal because they have become a part of your everyday life. You didn't wake up in this condition of brokenness, and it wasn't an instantaneous act thrust upon you, but rather, it occurred through a process of unconscious decisions, acceptations, and actions.
