Jayne, aged twelve, is transported to an alien world. She meets a patchworlder called Marula. Patchworlders are made of wool, with an embroidered face and cotton wadding within. Marula, has special powers too as Jayne soon discovers.

Marula's peaceful planet is threatened by Captain X. Patchworld can only be defended by collecting artefacts scattered throughout the planet. Join Jayne, and her new friends as they explore Patchworld. Their quest is to find artefacts that might be combined to create an automatic to save Patchworld from destruction. Their journey takes them on the high seas, through the Patchworld jungle and across the Hessian desert.

Their quest will not be easy. Captain X has powerful machines and hidden agents ready to stop the intrepid adventurers. Meanwhile, Jayne is makes a terrifying discovery, she is gradually transforming. Despite her own crisis, Jayne is determined to help her friends.
