Former NYPD Homicide Detectives Warren Temple and William Groat have been working for two years as Special Agents of the FBI. Now as Temple contemplates retirement, he is drawn into a new case for the Serial Killer Squad. The leader of the team is Special Agent Dave Anderson, and along with Louise (Lou) Carmichael, Aaron Devlin and Carl Walkin, they will have to investigate one of the most puzzling serial killers they have ever encountered. There have been three murders committed over the past four years; each victim brutally beaten before having their throats slashed. Two in Massachusetts and one in Connecticut. The team breaks up into groups of two, but after investigating each crime, they are no closer in determining what the victims had in common. Meanwhile, Dr. Malcolm Winters, a very wealthy psychiatrist, is visiting safe houses and shelters up and down the east coast. Flying in his private jet, he treats women and children who have been abused by their husbands or boyfriends. He treats them for free and has been doing so for many years. When Temple and Anderson discover each victim was an abuser of their families, and Dr. Winters has treated each of the murdered men's families, the hunt is on. But there is more than one possible suspect. There is a Social Services counselor, and the pilot who ferries Dr. Winters in his jet. Could there be others or are two or more working together to kill these men? As more victims are found, the team must work to find out just who the killer is.
